Abstract

China is a country with a long history and plentiful cultural treasure, so the approach of Chinese cultural geography is full of colourful and sig-nificant topics and can contribute a lot to the social development of the state. However, this field has been overlooked by geographers for a long period and only some subjects concerning the field are touched by some anthropologists, archaeologists and historians. To make up the shortage of pro-fessional studies as well as promote the approaches in the field, the paper discusses the origin and the originated sites of Chinese culture, the inter-course and exchange between Chinese and foreign cultures and the relation-ship of the formation of Chinese culture and the environment. In addition, the paper also reviews the current theories and practical approaches on cultural geography and gives the prospect of the research developrrent in future.
